The mast cover is printed in ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate), chosen specifically for its superior UV resistance. It’s ideal for outdoor use and maintains appearance over time, shielding a 304 stainless steel threaded rod core.
The flag retaining clips are made from the same tough PPA nylon for an ideal balance of flexibility and UV performance. They hold your flag firmly without cracking under pressure.
🧰 Tools Needed for Installation
To securely install your flag mount, you’ll need:
🪛 T30 Torx driver – used to remove and reinstall the two factory screws that secure the bracket
🔧 7/16" or 11 mm wrench/socket – for tightening both the acorn nut (top of mast) and nylon lock nut (mounting base)
🎁 Blue threadlocker such as Loctite 242 or 243– included as a FREE GIFT in your order, recommended for both fasteners to prevent vibration-related loosening
🔧 Replacement Parts — All hardware is standard off-the-shelf parts and easily sourced from most hardware stores or the Amazon links below:
Finial Nut: 304 stainless steel acorn nut, thread size 1/4"-20 or M6-1.0 (We are in the process of transitioning over to metric parts so temporarily you may receive either 1/4"-20 or M6-1.0 threaded parts depending on availability.)
Base Washer: 1" fender washer, 304 stainless steel
Locking Nut: 304 stainless steel, nylon insert, thread size 1/4"-20 or M6-1.0 (We are in the process of transitioning over to metric parts so temporarily you may receive either 1/4"-20 or M6-1.0 threaded parts depending on availability.)
Step 1 – Mounting the Brackets
Open the rear cargo bin and remove the two screws shown in the installation photo.
Position the PPA flag mount in place—each piece is marked Left or Right. These markings should be facing upward when correctly oriented. Reinstall the factory screws to secure the bracket. Do not over-tighten.
Ensure the mounting tab (where the flag mast attaches) is pointing downward, and the "LEFT" or "RIGHT" marking is facing up. This provides proper clearance so the storage compartment lid closes fully.
Repeat the process on the opposite side.
No drilling or bike modifications are required.
Step 2 – Attaching the Flag Mast
The flag mast assembly consists of a ¼″ or M6 stainless steel threaded rod with a three-piece decorative sleeve made from ASA—selected for its excellent UV resistance and weather durability.
To install:
Remove the top acorn nut and apply blue thread locker to the threads and re-secure the acorn nut.
Insert the rod through the hole at the end of the flag bracket so the flag mast is pointing up with the stainless steel acorn nut at the top.
Place the fender washer onto the threaded rod underneath the bracket , so the bracket is sandwiched between the base of the mast and the washer.
Optional, but recommended: Apply blue threadlocker to the bottom threads
Thread on the locking nut and tighten to secure.
⚠️ Do not overtighten. Over-compressing the ASA sleeve may cause bulging or deformation at the top or bottom. Just tighten until the mast is stable and snug, and there’s no noticeable movement at the base
Note: If you ordered one of our new Glow-in-the-Dark flag mast color options, glow-in-the-dark colors do not contain powered lighting. They rely on photoluminescence, where embedded phosphors in the material absorb energy from natural light sources — primarily sunlight ☀️. That stored energy is then gradually released as visible light over time. In essence, these parts “charge” during daylight hours and “glow” after dark 🌃, creating a striking glow effect without electricity.
Step 3 – Installing the Flag and Retainer Clips
Slide your flag over the mast until it’s in position.
To secure it:
Press the PPA retainer clip over the mast and flag. It’s designed to fit tightly and should snap into place with firm, even pressure.
Due to manufacturer variation in flag material thickness, the fit may vary:
If the clip feels too loose, consider adding a thin spacer (like a strip of tape or folded fabric) under the clip for a snugger fit.
Alternatively, you can use an ordinary zip tie to hold the flag securely in place.
